I always imagined misty's room to be unique, water-themed, with lots of blue tones. I also though that Misty's aquarium would be a lot different. So It became one wall of her room.
Don't worry, folks: Squirtle knows not to peek in on Misty changing. (after all, he wants to live to become a Blastosie.)
Done in Photoshop CS5, Sketched out on paper. The background wall is not my drawing, but a famous Japanese painting.
